However, something we haven’t asked Bartell until now is how the husband and father-of-two is preparing for his routines.
“It’s not just ‘What’s in your gym bag? ” he says. “This is for anyone who has a home gym or travels a lot. So the first thing before any workout…
1. WIRELESS HEADPHONES
Especially if you are going to commercial gyms or traveling, a set of quality wireless headphones can create a much-needed barricade against outside noise. “The headphones I wear tell people, don’t ask me how many reps or sets I have left,” Bartell says. “I can also put them on really hard and ignore everything around me. Because let’s face it, the biggest flaw I see with people in commercial gyms, and the biggest thing they fall into, are distractions. “
2. A NOTEBOOK
“I know, the paper is a bit archaic… but it’s going to keep your phone in your pocket where we want it,” Bartell says. “You go to the gym, you put on your headphones, you put that playlist on and you put your phone aside because it’s the number one distraction in the gym.
From texting and emailing to watching social media chat videos, tinkering with your phone can turn a quick break into an overly long break. Avoid the distraction by removing the phone from the equation.
Use the notebook to “write down your workouts… and your notes,” suggests Bartell. “All the fitness is in one notebook, and you take it with you every time you go to the gym or whenever you’re in good shape.
3. AN ESSENTIAL PRE-WORKOUT
“I’m up every day at 5 am,” Bartell explains. “I need energy. I used to be heavy in the pre-workouts. But the only problem I had with them was like the 90 different ingredients. I didn’t even know what they were. When I was in the military, I took a lot of energy drinks. I loved the flavor. I hated how sweet everything was.
Bartell’s remedy: Echelon. “This is the best solution I have found since it is 300 milligrams of caffeine. Basically, he’s got everything you really want for that pre-workout drink – and none of the other nonsense.
And because it’s in a smaller box, it’s easy to swallow so you can get it down and start your workout.

4. REP WAX OR OTHER CHALK ALTERNATIVES
“It’s the alternative to chalk,” Bartell says. “Most gyms don’t like having chalk because dust puts dust all over the place. The rep wax is nice and clean. It’s very discreet, no one really notices it.
The application is also easy: quickly rub the bar and you will get a great grip.
5. RESISTANCE BANDS
“I have a mini-group, a light group, a heavy group,” Bartell explains. The reason? If he can’t make it to the gym, these groups can provide him with a workout on the go.
“I can do anything with these three groups. And it also complements my amazingly magical workout by picking up good bands, search YouTube videos. I’ll start putting some other stuff in there too. But the bands are amazing, and they just advance your training.
6. ANTIBACTERIAL BODY WIPES
I use Bravo Sierra wipes. Like Echelon, it is a native military enterprise, ”he says.
“Especially if I’m traveling and the gym doesn’t have a shower, these wipes help me. Or even if I’m just out of the meeting, and just did a quick workout… and can’t take a shower. they are super strong [and] super thick. And it will wash my whole body off – especially anything that looks like sweat residue from you and leave you feeling like you’ve taken a shower even though you haven’t had a chance. “
