We’ve come a long way since that time when Yer Man was on the ball, off to Spain and never minding the rain. Ah, the glory days of 1982.
ootball has moved forward too and this summer it’s the NI women who claim their share of the limelight when they head to the Euros.
And now they can fine tune their preparations thanks to the efforts of a Belfast indie band.
3D Shark have pitched in and have a track record of producing footie anthems, having worked with Jackie Fullerton on a song ahead of Euro 2016.
While Jackie has always fancied himself as a singer, he’s been substituted this time with, appropriately, Niamh Rooney providing the female vocal talent.
“It’s a fun song and the lyrics are optimistic,” said band member Pete Major.
NI may be the lowest ranked team in the finals, but the band are daring to dream, and it would have been a shame had they gone off to compete without a suitable song in their honor.
