Vancouver authorities say vulnerable people urged to take COVID-19 vaccine for others

A health authority says ‘vulnerable people’ in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside have been approached with offers to pay for COVID-19 vaccinations by people trying to fraudulently obtain a BC vaccination card.

Vancouver Coastal Health says those approached were asked to get vaccinated by misusing that person’s name and information.

The authority described the behavior as “deplorable”.

He says he is “disappointed that someone is taking advantage of vulnerable people” to try to circumvent the process of receiving a vaccination card.

Vancouver Coastal Health claims to have been successful in preventing fraudulent attempts to obtain a card.

He says fraudulent immunization records are removed from the provincial immunization registry and cards are revoked.

The health authority says future cases of fraud could be escalated to local police.
