Toronto Extreme Cold Alert

The City of Toronto has issued an Extreme Cold Alert in anticipation of cold weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

Today’s high is expected to be -6 ° C, but will be -17 this morning and -10 this afternoon, according to Environment Canada.

Following the alert, the city is opening its warming centers for people who are vulnerable and likely to be homeless.

The centers provide a warm indoor place to rest and access snacks and toilets.

The warming centers will open at 7 p.m. today and will remain open until at least noon tomorrow or when the alert ends.

The city said the extreme cold alert will remain in effect until further notice.

Whenever an extreme cold alert is issued, residents are encouraged to visit friends, neighbors and vulnerable families to ensure they are not encountering any weather-related difficulties.
