The Walking Dead Showrunner backs Norman Reedus as Marvel’s new Ghost Rider

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves forward into Phase Four, there has been a lot of anticipation and hope as to which characters could step into the fold. Among the ever-growing number of possibilities is Ghost Rider, who has had multiple characters, starting with Johnny Blaze. While Nicolas Cage previously played the character in a series of films in 2007 and 2011, fans expected the role to be recast in the main MCU – and The walking dead and Death stranding Star Norman Reedus has been quite a popular fancast to choose him. Recently, Reedus rekindled that possibility by liking tweets about how he should play the role, and the ensuing hubbub seems to have caught the attention of The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang. As Kang tweeted on Monday, Reedus as Ghost Rider “would be awesome.”

Reedus’ suggestion portraying Johnny Blaze surfaced as early as 2017 and spawned countless pieces of fanart and other actors campaigning for it to happen.

β€œThe Ghost Rider conversation has been going on for years, and yes, tell them to get me started,” Reedus said in an exclusive interview with ComicBook.comby Brandon Davis in front The walking deadThe Comic-Con panel on Saturday. “I want to play Ghost Rider.”

“I want a fire skull. I want my face to turn into a fire skull and whip a chain,” Reedus added. “That would be great.”

The nature of a live-action Ghost Rider has been interesting over the years, after Gabriel Luna portrayed the Robbie Reyes version of the character in Agents of SHIELD. A Ghost Rider spinoff TV show was briefly in the works for Hulu, but was eventually dropped due to changing plans in the Marvel world.

β€œI would give all the money just to make the show, just to give this character everything I got for what we had, for this plan we had,” Luna said. ComicBook.com earlier this year. “But you pay and you go forward, you go forward and you try to continue your work.”
