Taylor Swift is continuing to take ownership of her music and has had fans’ emotions in pieces in the process, with her latest release being This Love (Taylor’s Version).
The singer is currently in the process of re-recording her previous albums, as she believes artists should be able to own their work.
She began the process after music mogul Scooter Braun bought the ownership to her first six albums – released by her first record label Big Machine Records – back in 2019 for a hefty price of $300million (£237m).
Taylor was shocked by the move and accused the businessman of bullying her for years, suggesting he was out to ‘dismantle’ her work.
Now, in a bid to take back ownership of her songwriting, the country-turned-pop star has slowly been releasing her old music back into the world, much to the delight of Swifties, since she’s also treated them to previously unheard tracks from ‘ The Vault’ and collaborated with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Phoebe Bridgers, and Keith Urban.
Taylor first re-released her second platinum-selling album Fearless, before dropping Red last year.
It seems her latest treat to her adoring fanbase is music from critically-acclaimed 2014 record 1989, which saw the star venture out into the world of pop for the first time.
The next re-recorded song she’s dropped from the Grammy-winning record is This Love, which Taylor actually started working on back in 2012 and was the first song written for 1989 (named after her birth year).
She dropped the track on unassuming fans this Friday, using the trailer for Amazon Prime’s adaptation of The Summer I Turned Pretty to promote it.
Her fans have taken to social media to share that listening to the song feels like a ‘heavenly experience’ and will undoubtedly have them ‘crying all weekend’ over how beautiful it sounds.
This Love (Taylor’s Version) is now available to stream everywhere, and suggests the 32-year-old superstar has more surprises up her sleeve from her back catalog for the coming months.
In September, Taylor released Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version) from 1989 after the song went viral on TikTok.
She tweeted at the time: ‘Hi! Saw you guys got Wildest Dreams trending on tiktok, thought you should have my version. [sic]’
Meanwhile, Taylor recently announced that she is releasing a new song
called Carolina, which is proof that she literally does not stop (not that we’re complaining, please give us there the songs, Taylor).
Taylor wrote the track ‘alone’ and produced it alongside long-time friend and music collaborator Aaron Dessner.
The pair co-produced Taylor’s smash hit eighth and ninth studio albums, folklore and evermore, which provided solace to millions during Covid lockdowns.
Carolina is set to feature in the upcoming movie version of Where the Crawdads Sing, the 2018 murder mystery novel by American author Delia Owens – and a clip of the song is in a recently-shared trailer for the movie.
The movie will star 23-year-old Normal People actress Daisy
Edgar-Jones, and will be produced by 46-year-old actress Reese Witherspoon.
The Love Story singer wrote in an Instagram caption: ‘I wrote the song Carolina alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story.’
While the song does not have an official release date yet, Taylor added
that the full version of Carolina will be available in full ‘soon.’
She added: ‘You’ll hear it fully soon, but for now check out the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip!’
Taylor’s caption was written below a post of the full trailer and snippets of lyrics that can be heard in the teaser include the lines: ‘You didn’t see me here’ and, ‘There are places I will never go to, things that only Carolina will ever know.’
The Blank Space singer also discussed her love for the novel the film is based on, in addition to praising both Daisy and Reese.
Taylor added: ‘Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side.’
This Love (Taylor’s Version) is available now.
