North Shore Rescue onsite after off-piste skier caught in avalanche

Ground crews are on hand with a skier who was caught in an avalanche on Hollyburn Mountain.

Shortly before noon Monday, North Shore Rescue (NSR) posted on Facebook that it was responding to reports of an off-piste skier with a broken leg in Cypress Provincial Park, adding that the skier had been “possibly caught in an avalanche “.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., NSR added another message, noting that they were at the scene with the subject and confirming the skier had broken his leg in an avalanche on Hollyburn Mountain.

NSR added that due to cloud cover in the area, the helicopter is unable to reach the scene and a ground evacuation will be required.

Hollyburn is a well-known location for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing in Cypress Provincial Park, located less than a 45-minute drive from Metro Vancouver.
