Nominations Open for 10th Annual Order of Ottawa and Brian Kilrea Coaching Awards – Stittsville Central

Nominations for the 2021 Order of Ottawa and the Brian Kilrea Coaching Excellence Award are now being accepted by the City. If you know someone who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to their profession or to the community, which makes them highly worthy of this honor, submit their name to be considered for this prestigious award.

The Order of Ottawa, now in its 10th year, recognizes the professional achievements and exceptional service of outstanding residents of Ottawa – those who have made a significant contribution, through their professional efforts, to the life of the city in one of the following fields: arts and culture, business, philanthropy, health care, education, public service, work, communications and media , science, sports and entertainment and other areas that benefit Ottawa.

This prestigious civic award honors up to 15 of Ottawa’s most deserving individuals each year. You can nominate any Ottawa resident who has made a significant contribution in a professional capacity that has benefited our community.

The Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching, which will be presented at the Order of Ottawa Awards Ceremony in the fall of 2021, recognizes the contribution of an amateur coach who exemplifies the qualities of leadership and commitment that marked the career of Brian Kilrea. Mr. Kilrea is a retired head coach, general manager and hockey player. He is best known for his 35 year association with the Ottawa 67’s. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, has played and coached in the NHL and, with over 1,000 career wins, he is the most successful coach in Canadian junior hockey history.

A list of Order of Ottawa inductees is prominently displayed on a wall on the first floor of Ottawa City Hall and posted online. Applications from the public are reviewed and recipients of the Order of Ottawa are chosen by a selection committee which includes the mayor, city clerk, chief of police, chief of protocol, city archivist and general manager of library services.

You can full nominations for both awards either online or by downloading a nomination form from the Order of Ottawa Awards Webpage. the submission the deadline is Friday, September 10 at 11:59 p.m.. Applications will be reviewed annually for five consecutive years from the date of submission.

Nominations by immediate family members, self-nominations and posthumous nominations will not be accepted. Municipal, provincial and federal elected officials are not eligible during their mandate.
