New South Wales road fatalities: Two dead in fire engine and Ford Falcon collision on the Castlereagh highway between Lithgow and Mudgee

Two people have died as a result of a collision between two vehicles on the Castlereagh Highway between Lithgow and Mudgee.

Emergency services were called on the Castlereagh Freeway near Pearsons Lookout in the Capertee Valley around 9:30 a.m. Thursday following reports that an NSW Rural Fire Department truck and a Ford Falcon had entered in collision.

The car’s two male occupants – who have not yet been officially identified – died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The four people in the truck were not injured and the driver was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Police have set up a crime scene and are calling on anyone who saw the incident or possessed dashcam footage of the area at the time to contact Crime Stoppers.
