St. John’s MP and Federal Labor Minister Seamus O’Regan has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet late Monday, O’Regan said he was isolating and following all public health guidelines.

O’Regan says his positive result was confirmed with a rapid test, but he did not say how he could have contracted the virus.

“I am grateful for my three doses of the vaccine, for the thousands of healthcare workers who keep us safe and for the vigilance of millions of Canadians,” he said on Twitter. “Hold fast.”

O’Regan is one of many politicians to have recently confirmed positive tests, including Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.

The number of cases has increased worldwide with a record number since the emergence of the Omicron variant.
