OPINION: Manchester United show their true colors with fans returning to stadiums
Manchester United reached the top of the Premier League on their first day away from 2021 at Burnley and their latest left them seventh.
Turf Moor was chilly and crowded, blanket of darkness in the moors beyond the ground in keeping with the gloomy January lock evenings. The blackout was in stark contrast to the cosmopolitan hustle and bustle of Newcastle city center, with St James’ Park as its lighthouse.
Yesterday, the real gauge of where a United team was was in the bear pit at Ali Sami Yen stadium, the Camp Nou cauldron or the Highbury tunnel. Now he’s on the path to relegation with a plethora of championship-level players.
Crossing the Tyne Bridge and approaching St James for a nighttime kickoff the night after Boxing Day still had the potential for shock, only shock would do Newcastle a disservice. United’s performance and result at Newcastle was quite predictable and reflected a physically and mentally weak team.
