Manchester City are reportedly ready to shell out €80m to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, who is a target for Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Kounde has been at Sevilla since 2019 and has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most sought-after young defenders. The 23-year-old played a key role in The Nervionenses The UEFA Europa League triumph in 2019/20 and have been central to their rise to prominence in La Liga over the past two years.
The defender was also part of the France squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2021 and has attracted a lot of interest from elite clubs across Europe Therefore. Chelsea intended to sign Kounde last summer but a move failed to materialize as Sevilla raised their transfer fee demands late in the window.
However, the Blues have continued to show interest in the Frenchman as they consider a defensive overhaul this summer. Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta are all in the final six months of their Chelsea contracts and are attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer. Thus, Thomas Tuchel will have to bring in at least one new centre-half, Koundé being a viable target.

As for Real Madrid, they too are longtime admirers of the 23-year-old and are watching him to strengthen their backline. After losing Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos last year, Whites just bring in David Alaba to bolster their defense. While he and Eder Militao have been top notch, there isn’t much quality behind them with Nacho aging and Jesus Vallejo not being favoured. making Koundé a key target.
However, they will now face competition from Manchester City, who have made their interest in the Sevilla ace known. So Chelsea and Real Madrid will have their work cut out if they want to land the 23-year-old from Sevilla this summer as they will have to compete with the English champions.
