Man arrested after police chase in Hillside

A Bacchus Marsh man was arrested after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle in Hillside on Thursday evening.

Police first spotted the stolen 1994 Nissan Skyline on Falcon Drive in Melton around 9.55pm.

The car is believed to have been stolen from a Melton shopping center last week.

Police Air Wing was called and began following the car as it entered the Western Freeway at rapid speed.

Officers deployed stop sticks at The Regency in Hillside, but the driver reportedly drove on before crashing into a civilian’s car parked on Banchory Avenue.

The driver reportedly fled on foot but was arrested without incident shortly thereafter.

The 33-year-old was taken to hospital under police guard with minor injuries sustained in the crash.

No one else was hurt.

Detectives from the Melton Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and it is continuing.
