Karine Jean-Pierre will become next White House press secretary

The White House will have a new face appearing on nightly newscasts offering the Biden administration’s perspectives.

Karine Jean-Pierre will succeed Jen Psaki as the White House press secretary on May 13.

Jean-Pierre will become the first Black person and first lesbian in this position.

She has been the deputy press secretary since 2021. Prior to that, she was chief of staff on the Kamala Harris 2020 presidential campaign.

Jean-Pierre’s promotion comes as Democrats are preparing for the midterm elections, when they hope to retain control over the US House of Representatives.

She was born in Haiti and raised in New York City. Her partner is CNN reporter Suzanne Malveaux.
