Ian Wright has mocked Gary Neville on Twitter after the Manchester United legend called on the Premier League to reject Arsenal’s request to postpone their game against Tottenham.

The Gunners made a formal request to the league on Friday for the North London derby to be canceled this Sunday.

The club said they were short of available players due to Covid, injuries and missing squad members for the Africa Cup of Nations.

A decision on whether to continue the game is expected to be made on Saturday, with the Premier League’s new Covid-19 guidelines stipulating that clubs must play a game if they can field 13 outfield players.

Arsenal are only known to have one Covid case with Martin Odegaard, while Granit Xhaka is suspended and Folarin Balogun and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were loaned out during the January transfer window.

But former United full-back Neville has expressed his view that all teams should be forced to play their games and believes Arsenal’s request should be dismissed.

“I honestly believe that all teams, not just in the Premier League but in the EFL now, should be forced to play their matches,” Neville said. Sky Sports Friday.

“Balogun was loaned out, Maitland-Niles was loaned out, Xhaka received a red card, it’s no one else’s fault. We can’t cancel matches.

β€œIf it was only due to Covid in extraordinary circumstances and there were 10 or 15 players absent,” he added.

“But now we’re talking about teams over the last few weeks where there’s no doubt that they’ve called off games based on whether they think they have the best team or team to win a game. You have to let it stop.

β€œAnd I have to say it’s not a dig at Arsenal. I should have spoken three or four weeks ago. Manchester United, other teams, have 30 or 40 players in their squad, I don’t think they can’t put together 14, 15, 16 players.

‘And so for me, that should be rejected. Without knowing the exact details unless there is an absolute load of Covid cases arriving at Arsenal today I feel like I played Liverpool last night and played fantastically by the way, this has to stop now. They have to play the teams.

Taking to Twitter to further explain his reasoning on Saturday morning, Neville said: “I repeat it’s not about Arsenal, but all teams should now be playing in the PL and EFL.” Also why was the decision delayed until today when the request was last night at 6:30 p.m. Fans will leave everywhere and be in limbo! In response to Neville’s tweet, Gunners legend Wright said: “‘START NOW’ πŸ˜‚πŸ˜³.

“It’s not about Arsenal or the fans. It’s not about Super Sunday on Sky anymore!
