A powerful explosion has destroyed part of a popular five star hotel in Havana, Cuba, with smoke and flames billowing out from the building.
Police and rescue workers arrived at the historic Hotel Saratoga on the Paseo del Prado, in Old Havana just after 11am, where walls on the multi-storey building had been blown out by the blast.
There have not yet been reports of casualties, but a number of ambulances were seen at the site. A nearby school has been evacuated.
According to local reports, there had been construction work taking place at the hotel, which has hosted Beyonce, Madonna and the King of Morocco.
The £200-a-night hotel was described by Telegraph Travel as “Havana’s high-end small hotel.”
