The Edmonton Police Department’s Homicide Section is investigating the suspicious death of a 54-year-old man.

At around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, police were called in about an assault at a homeless shelter in the area of ​​100 Street and 105A Avenue.

When police arrived, paramedics were already taking rescue action on the man. He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries, police said in a press release Monday afternoon.

The homicide section has resumed the investigation. Police said interviews with witnesses were ongoing.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Edmonton Police said this was their first investigation into a suspicious death in 2022.
