A man who was caught on camera beating his new wife at their wedding has been charged for the attack.
The unnamed groom was filmed viciously hitting his bride in the head after she got the better of him during a playful game which involved unwrapping pieces of candy.
The horrifying incident – which took place in the Surkhandaryo region of Uzbekistan – was shared widely online and even caught the attention of the president’s daughter, Saida Mirziyoyeva, leading police to track down the couple.
The man has since been charged with “hooliganism”, but faces just 15 days in prison if convicted, the Daily Mail reported.

It was later revealed that the man had “apologised to the bride and expressed regret at his actions”, according to a committee in the Uzbek legislature’s upper house.
“On the same day, the bride and groom reconciled and now live together,” the committee added.
As the video began to get traction online, Ms Mirziyoyeva urged people to speak out about incidents of violence against women.
“We shouldn’t remain silent about such cases, we should not pretend that they are one-offs,” she said.
“This is why we need education that opens horizons and makes women independent and strong.”

Shockingly, the incident is not the first time domestic violence has been caught on video at an Uzbek wedding.
In 2019, a groom was filmed slapping his new wife after she teased him by looking like she was going to feed him a piece of wedding cake before snatching it away from his mouth.
The man is seen hitting the bride so hard that she falls back onto a seat behind her. Just like the more recent video, the incident sparked outrage online and calls for the woman to file for divorce.
