Ellen pompeo will admit that she never imagined she would play Meredith Gray again 17 years later Grey’s Anatomy premiered on ABC in 2005. Today, 18 seasons later, the 52-year-old actress is essential to the hit medical drama, but the possibility of the show ending is never far from her mind. Now that GrayFans starting to talk about a potential 19th season, Ellen shares her honest thoughts on the show’s future.
Around the period Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 took a hiatus in December – which is set to return in late February – Ellen revealed to Insider that she is determined to put everyone on the same page about the end of the series. The mother-of-three said that while she was unsure of how Meredith’s story was going to end, she wanted viewers to experience it as soon as possible.
“I tried to focus on convincing everyone that this should end,” Ellen told the outlet. “I feel like I’m the super naive who keeps saying, ‘But what will be the story, what story are we going to tell? And everybody’s like, ‘What does it matter, Ellen? It’s billions of dollars.
“I am currently manifesting a season 19 #GreysAnatomy”, a person wrote. “Dear @EllenPompeo, I see you putting everyone in a happy scenario forever. That’s good, but only if you keep taking us through season 19 ”, another added. “My weekly advocacy at @ABCNetwork. Please renew @GreysABC. I have an idea. Renew for 2 more seasons. Seasons 19 and 20. @EllenPompeo wouldn’t have to be in every episode. She’s in Minnesota. Build up. to season 20 which would be the last. Come on ABC. Let’s do this, ” another fan said.
Almost a decade later Grey’s, Ellen began to say how long she wanted to continue playing the main character. In January 2014, she said she was considering quitting acting after the series ended. Ellen later shared in February 2016 that she and Graycreator / executive producer of Shonda rhime planned to make a unified decision on the conclusion of the show.
“Shonda and I are talking about [the end]”said Ellen Cosmopolitan. “We feel like we’re in the same boat together, and I think we don’t want to do the show without each other. I think when one of us is ready, when we feel it’s time to wrap up [we will]. “
Season after season, Grey’s fans heard Ellen express that sentiment. That said, Ellen admitted that showrunner and executive producer Krista vernoff and ABC will also have a say in the ending. While Ellen has signed two-year contracts in recent seasons, after her last one expired in 2020, the network announced in May 2021 that she had signed for one year to do season 18. More recently, end December, Deadline reported that Ellen and ABC had started talking about a possible Season 19.
People will have to wait to find out if Ellen will give them new episodes for just one more installment or if the end of the series is really here.
