Coronavirus LIVE as pressure mounts on Boris Johnson to quit over new party allegations

What happened in Downing Street the day before Prince Philip’s funeral?

Further claims that two more Downing Street parties took place while coronavirus restrictions were in place, the day before the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, emerged on Thursday evening.

The Queen attended the funeral of Philip, her 74-year-old husband, face-marked and socially estranged from his family at Windsor Castle in line with Covid restrictions.

The Telegraph reported that advisers and officials met after work for two separate events on April 16, 2021.

They were to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s former communications director, and one of the Prime Minister’s personal photographers, the newspaper said.

The Telegraph quoted a No 10 spokesman as saying Mr Johnson was not in Downing Street that day. They say he was at Checkers.

He reported testimonies from witnesses who said the alcohol was drunk and the guests danced to music.

As the photographer departed, someone left the party to fill a suitcase with wine from a nearby cooperative to bring back to guests, the newspaper reported.

The two events are said to have started separately and then merged.

At the time, government guidelines stated: ‘You must not socialize indoors except with your household or support bubble. You can meet outdoors, including in gardens, in groups of six or two households.

A Downing Street spokesperson said of Mr Slack’s event: ‘On this individual’s last day he gave a farewell speech thanking each team for the work they had done for the support, both those who needed to be in the office for work and on a screen for those working from home.

The spokesperson had no further comment on allegations that a farewell meeting was held for the Prime Minister’s personal photographer.
