Call for ‘cat cuddlers and rabbit socialisers’ to help RSPCA Manchester and Salford

Spending time cuddling and hanging out with cats as well as bunnies could be your new hobby thanks to a new opportunity available at an RSPCA branch.

A number of volunteer positions have become available this New Year at RSPCA Manchester and Salford, which they only advertise from time to time.

The centre, which is relatively new since opening in July 2019, is a local branch of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, but is a separately registered charity.

This means they must raise all of their own funds to operate.

It also means that visitors are needed to help clean up, as well as spending time with rescued animals so that once adopted, they are more familiar with human companionship.

The roles would suit animal lovers with some spare time and looking to do a good deed.

And there is also the possibility of volunteering on weekends, which is suitable for those who have a full-time job.

“Join our wonderful team of volunteers at our small animal center in Salford,” the advert read.

Finn is just one of the bunnies they care for – he’s been at the branch for over 280 days

“We are looking for people who can commit to a weekly slot (a few roles are available fortnightly) for at least the next three months.

“This is because a lot of time is spent training volunteers and therefore temporary placements are not manageable for us.”

They added: “Volunteers must be over 18 (for insurance reasons) and if you have any cats/dogs/rabbits or ferrets in your home they will need to be up to date on their vaccinations for everyone’s safety. .”

The branch is a minute’s walk from the Weste Metrolink stop, 53 nearby bus stops and free parking.

In 2021, the team had 624 animals admitted to their care and saw 503 animals rehomed – 259 cats, 117 rabbits, 127 cubs.
