The 18-year-old centre-back, who made his senior debut for City earlier this season, has signed a deal which will take him until June 2027.

Burns, who has been at the club for over five years, was a key part of City’s elite development squad that won the Premier League 2 title last season.

He has once again been in impressive form for our Under-23s this season and has made 13 appearances so far for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side in PL2 as well as five appearances in our UEFA Youth campaign. League.

Tall, imposing and comfortable in possession, Burns’ progress was further recognized when he made his first-team debut in September, playing the full 90 minutes in City’s 6-1 third-round victory over the Carabao Cup v Wycombe Wanderers.

Finley was also a member of the City team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2020 and was also part of our Under-18 Premier League North title-winning squad in the same year.

Meanwhile, fellow Academy youngster Shea Charles has also signed a new long-term contract with the club.

As with Burns, the 18-year-old midfielder’s new contract will run until June 2027.

A key figure in our Premier League North and National Under-18 wins last season, Charles was subsequently promoted to the elite development squad in the summer of 2021.

Since then he has made a big impact at Under-23 level and has so far made 15 appearances for us in PL2 as well as five times in our UEFA Youth League campaign.

Shea’s progress was recognized last November when he was first capped by the Northern Ireland Under-21s.
