“You know [what’s happened] over the years. Saka has to be on people’s radar all day, a great team like Manchester City has to watch him go, “he’s going to improve our team”.

” [Emile] Smith Rowe, I know he hasn’t started, but he’s improved so much. [Martin] Odegaard looks like a different player now, he really enjoys his football.

“If you look at it, the age ranges of each player are very, very healthy. [Kieren] Tierney is only 24 years old, Gabriel [Magalhaes] is still young, Ben White is young, [Takehiro] Tomiyasu in the right-back is young, [Aaron] Ramsdale is young.

“If they can stay together and improve together, they can get closer to teams like Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, but they are still a long way off at the moment.”

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan believes Saka would be a perfect fit for Liverpool, while admitting the Reds would have to pay hefty fees to keep the youngster away from his childhood club.

“Absolutely, I can see it in Liverpool,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“I don’t think it was that long ago that they tried to tempt him at Anfield when he was out of contract at Arsenal.

“We have seen the development of Saka – he is now one of the best wingers in the Premier League.

“The way he hits the ball, the way he dictates a game, he’s really a Liverpool style player.

“However, it looks like Mikel Arteta is building something really special at Arsenal right now.

“I’m sure the club won’t want to let him go for the money and show his strength in the market.

“They will want to show that they are not a selling club and really continue this rebuilding.”
