Annihilator Shares Van Halen’s ‘Romeo Delight’ Cover With Dave Lombardo and Stu Block

ANNIHILATOR shares the cover of

earMUSIC released the latest single from ANNIHILATORis to come “Metal II” album, a cover of FROM HALENit is “Romeo delight”.

“Metal II”, which arrives on February 18, launches this long-term campaign, which will include special configurations, additional bonus material, new exclusive and unreleased tracks from the band.

“There was something about “Women and children first”“, thinks ANNIHILATORit is Jeff Waters. “It was a massively brutal attitude to aggression – meets a David Lee Roth– party in front. You have to remember when this came out. “Romeo delight” is the “heaviest” song of FROM HALEN, in my (and Kerry King‘s!) notice. The photos on the cover/back of “Women and children first” were impactful. It was a green cover and it was a photo of the band posing for a record cover and instead of blowing that photo up to the actual size of the LP they cropped it to be a third of the size disc and all around it was green. I would stare at the front and back photos for hours! Eddie was like a second father in a way. Millions [of others] probably feel that too and only his fans at the time could understand that.”

He continues: “His playing, songwriting, performance and smile were second to none. EVER. He was a superb writer, chief guitar innovator, rhythm genius and he was able to build an equipment empire. “He took a risk. Did his thing. It worked. Millions and more will mourn him as long as the future world loves music. But we’ll also celebrate forever, as musicians will continue to pass on the ‘EVH-the-influenced-musical-genes’ to future generations!”

“Metal II” got an incredible overhaul with the one and only david lombardo (KILLER) killing drums and vocals “reinvented” by the great Block Stu (IN ETERNITY, FROZEN EARTH). The guest list on the album is huge: Willie Adler (LAMB OF GOD), Alexis Laiho (CHILDREN OF THE BODY), Steve “Lips” Kudlow (ANVIL), Dan Beehler (EXCITER), Jesper Strömblad (IN FIRE), Angela Gossow (SWORN ENEMY), Jeff Loomis (ENEMY ARC, NEVER AGAIN), Anders Bjorler (THE HAUNTED, AT THE GATES) and Corey Beaulieu (TRIVIUM).

Waters handed over mixing duties to a legendary engineer mike fraser (AC DC, FROM HALEN) and it has been remastered by Maor Appelbaum.

When Waters was asked, “What record would you do again, if you could and why?”, Without hesitation, he was “Metal”. So what we have now is a 2021 record called “Metal II”, appropriately, with all the original guest tracks from 2007 with Jeff Waters at the bar.

“One of the greatest engineers/mixers on the planet, mike fraser, was my first choice to mix this one,” I f said. “It was a challenge because Mike wasn’t brought in to make a record; he was just there to mix a big mess of tracks that were recorded in 2006 and 2021 and with over 14 players on it. After this difficult mix, I promised Mike that I would make another record with him, out of nothing.”

David was in my favorite band (KILLER),” Waters says, “and continues to evolve and play in many diverse bands, like UNFAVORABLE, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, DEAD CROSS, MR STRIKE and many other projects. It was an honor to be on the same record as Lombardo. And he uses the ‘Reign in Blood’ ride the cymbal!! Yes! The REAL cymbal ride we hear on this classic record.”

Waters reveals that “stu was the singer I (publicly) wanted to be ANNIHILATOR, since I heard it in the canadian band IN ETERNITY, but I never had the opportunity to have it! He’s the next generation of incredible singers taking over the microphone from icons like [Bruce] Dickinson and [Rob] Halford. And our paths should have crossed a long time ago, but we are here now!

“So I got them both,” Waters continues, “and they both loved the tunes and both said ‘FUCK YES’! And I said to stu, “You have three takes”, so there are blemishes, warts and bullshit everywhere. And I said the same to David, ‘do it’. And watching the pros do that is mind blowing because you don’t have the best sounds, but you have the best players.”

Waters ends, “Although Alexis Laihois shredding “Outright Dominate” and the FROM HALEN song “Romeo delight” were recorded some time ago, adding stu and David to these songs gave us all the feeling that ‘Metal II’ is also a fitting tribute to our two deceased guitar heroes. Ed and Alexis, TEAR”
