A book of condolences will be opened in memory of John Kelly of Buncrana

A condolence book will be opened in memory of the man found dead in a Buncrana alley last night.

John Kelly’s body was discovered in an alley behind a row of houses near Knockalla Drive.

Mr Kelly was the longtime caretaker at St Oran National School, Cockhill.

The school will be open from 3 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. today and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow Sunday for the community to sign the book in honor of Mr Kelly.

A prayer vigil will also be held at 6 p.m. in the school playground. Everyone present is invited to bring a candle.

The St Oran Parents’ Association has posted a glowing tribute to Mr Kelly on social media.

He said: “It is with very heavy hearts that we must inform you that our dear guardian, John Kelly, has left this life. We are heartbroken as John enriched the lives of everyone he met. .

“He took care of our building, but more importantly, he took care of each and every one of us, from the youngest child to the oldest. May his very gentle soul rest in peace.”
